A gentleman from Illinois rode into the shop last Saturday on this bike. It began life as an R75/5 but the owner says the engine and tranny are now /6′s. It has a Heinrich tank and a dogleg kick start lever, which Honz lusted over. The bags are Craven Golden Arrow. The owner says, “It runs better than it looks.” Indeed, but cool anyway!

Bike Night at the Ball Park

BikeNightStL will partner with the St. Louis Cardinals and area motorcycle shops and dealers for “Street Bike Day” at Busch Stadium. The date is September 19 (Cardinals vs. Padres at 1:15 p.m.). All tickets include a commemorative sidestand plate and a parade wristband. Complimentary parking will be will be in the Ballpark Village Lot. There will be a dealer/vendor area and a chance to ride in the motorcycle parade around the field (2 hours before game time).

Gateway BMW has $30 tickets available in the Outfield Terrace Box… 40 of them right now but we can get more. Everyone buying tickets at the shop will be seated together.

Honz says he’s taking the Cardinals bike and he’s not bringing it back! Preferably, he’ll sell it. Maybe to Pujols? Or not.

The Tradeoffs Roadtrip

When I first saw this F650GS back in service I thought, “Oh boy, we got a weird one here.” But Tamela Rich was inside, plotting routes while her bike was being fixed (it was towed in). 2nd Runner-up Finish for the S1000RR and Janie Palm

This was an exciting week of drag racing at Gateway International Raceway (GIR) for Janie Palm and GATEWAY BMW. Janie raced the BMW S1000RR at Midnight Madness, Test & Tune and King of the Track (KOT) bracket race. Her accomplishments for the week include running her quickest pass on the BMW S1000RR and scoring a runner-up finish in the KOT bracket race, making this the 2^nd for her on the BMW S1000RR this year.

Friday July 23^rd Janie attended GIR’s Midnight Madness event and made several passes down the drag strip on the BMW S1000RR. The event brought out the whole GATEWAY BMW MOTORCYCLES staff and several of their customers to participate in the racing. They had a great display set up with several of their S1000RR motorcycles for the crowd to see.

Tuesday July 27^th Janie brought the BMW S1000RR to GIR’s Test & Tune and on her first attempt ran her quickest pass to date; 9.65 @ 146 mph. One thing to note is that the motorcycle is still setup as a showroom stock bike, with the exception of a slip on exhaust and a front end strap.

Saturday July 31^st Janie participated in GIR’s King of the Track event, where the winner of each class (Motorcycle, Pro Car, Super Pro Car and Street Car) race for a Wally trophy. Janie made it all the way to the final round of the motorcycle class only to loose by the slightest margin, .0055, to last year’s winner of the KOT.

Janie was quoted as saying; “I was really hoping to take the win for GATEWAY BMW MOTORCYCLES. They have been so supportive in this venture and I wanted to show the world how versatile this bike really is. I wanted to be the first to get a drag racing win on the BMW S1000RR. My victory dance will have to wait for now, but I have no doubt this motorcycle will see its fair share of victories on the drag strip not only by me but by everyone who drag races this incredible machine.”

Janie raced again in Midnight Madness at Gateway International Raceway. Even though it was a hot evening, customers and staff supported Janie in her latest attempts to lower her times on the S1000RR. She easily beats 10 seconds for the quarter mile now, hanging in there at about 9.8 seconds (146 mph) for the evening.

Janie Palm to Race in Midnight Madness July 23

Janie will ride the Gateway BMW S1000RR again at Gateway International Raceway’s Midnight Madness on July 23. Gateway BMW staff will be there under the Gateway BMW tent. Come out and watch Janie race and hang with the group. We’ll be there around 8 p.m. Racing begins at 9 p.m. You can drag your own bike, too, for a mere $25 (tech inspections required). Janie Palm Claims Runner-up on the Gateway BMW S1000RR

Saturday July 10, 2010 was supposed to be a 2WheelSpeed event for Janie Palm and Charles Willis of Willis Racing where they would campaign Gateway BMW’s S1000RR. Unforeseen circumstances kept them from making the trip up to Byron, IL for the event; instead they stayed local and went to Gateway International Raceway’s National Dragster Challenge Bracket Race.

They both competed in the Pro Motorcycle Class as that is the only one available to the motorcycles. Janie had luck on her side that day as she moved through four rounds of competition to the finals. It was a bit challenging for Janie to race that day as the BMW S1000RR had only been strapped down in the front, leaving her to sit at almost stock height. “I am not that tall and to barely touch the ground on the S10000RR is a bit intimidating as the motorcycle has so much power off the line it wants to stand straight up. I made the best of it and actually ran my quickest pass to date on the BMW S1000RR, 9.78 @ 147 mph.” Commented Janie.

Janie raced one of the long time local Pro Motorcycle racers in the final, Dusty Katich. “Dusty is a great racer and I knew I had to be on my game to beat him on the tree. My reaction time was a bit slower than Dusty’s and I just couldn’t make it up at the finish line so he took the win. I have to add that I feel fortunate to have made it as far as I did as Gateway International Raceway has some of the best motorcycle drag racers in the country and to make it to a final there is really an honor.” Added Janie.

Janie’s next event out on the BMW S1000RR will be back at Gateway International Raceway for their Midnight Madness event. The whole Gateway BMW staff will be there, come out and visit their display.

Sally might become a new shop dog. Shannon found her near Hawk Point, MO and brought her home, leaving his phone number at the gas station near where he found her, in case her owners are looking for her. She’s a sweetie and obviously was well-loved. Mostly pit bull, she loves to be petted and she’s very friendly. A real tail wagger!

Update… She’s been renamed Miss Piggy, or Piggy for short.

One Big Reason not to Wash Your GSA

Dan Bolin had a little trouble at the car wash.  This is funny, but it's not funny.  

He wrote to Honz:

Honz,
Attached are some pictures of what happened the other day when
I fell through a wooden grate at the local car wash.  It took 4 guys to pull
it outta that pit. Only damage was I broke both fog light bracket rings and
broke the left plastic cover on my brand new bark busters.
Show these to Justin, he did not believe me when I called him on Friday
to order the fog light rings. Also show the rest of the guys for a good
laugh.

Saturday, June 26 – meet at the shop at 4pm and leave 4;30pm for a ride to Honz’s cabin in Potosi. Bring camping gear and bug spray unless you don’t mind the skeeters & such. There will be a stop to get provisions on the way there. Enjoy a GS ride Sunday and will arrive in Bixby for lunch around 1-ish. Let’s ride!

Drag Racing the S1000RR

About 25 employees and customers watched as Janie Palm raced the S1000RR at Gateway International Raceway’s Midnight Madness on June 18. The shop set up a tent, grilled brats and enjoyed the relatively cool evening. In addition to Janie’s racing, Honz and other employees and customers paid the fee, filled out forms and submitted to tech inspection.

Janie ran the S1000RR to a time of 10.06 seconds for the quarter mile. That was 142 mph plus some change. She feels she break 10 seconds so Honz has agreed to some mods and we’ll see if she can break 10 seconds at a future Midnight Madness event at the track.

Janie let Kevin rig her helmet up with a Vholdr ContourHD action cam. Here’s the result…
