Bill Heggarty’s Old Bike
A gentleman from Illinois rode into the shop last Saturday on this bike. It began life as an R75/5 but the owner says the engine and tranny are now /6′s. It has a Heinrich tank and a dogleg kick start lever, which Honz lusted over. The bags are Craven Golden Arrow. The owner says, “It runs better than it looks.” Indeed, but cool anyway!

Looks like my old bike. The guy I sold it to lived here in St. Louis and had the tank repinted by me at our shop on Forest Park about a year before we sold out to OOB people.
His name was George Clu and at one time was a MC tech for Dave Muninast.

I’ve known George Cule since 1975, and that year he introduced me to two wonderful experiences in my life, motorcycles and my wife. He turned me on to BMW’s a few years later when he bought this bike. It only took a couple rides on this motorcycle to make me realize I would enjoy my honeymoon to & through Canada on a BMW, rather than my TX650 Yamaha. I bought a 75/6 in 1980 from Brian @ BMW Motorrad and have been a happy camper ever since. Even picked up an ’88 R100RS from Honz a couple years back, a little worse for wear after getting rear-ended last year, but is sits right next to the /6.
Always liked George’s /5. By the way, I still have the Haberman fairing off this bike in my garage. We can talk about it on the way to MotoGP next week!!
